Halloween, penguin style

It was raining cats and dogs this morning, so we had a quiet morning at home. The first of many as we head into fall/winter. The good weather couldn't last forever! B decorated her pumpkin (and herself!) with stickers while I carved a bigger one and roasted some pumpkin seeds.

Later we had a great time trick-or-treating in the Proctor District. There were TONS of other families and kids! Mom and Sarah joined us and Steve even got a photo with Grizz! B discovered C-A-N-D-Y, although she's not a fan of chocolate--yet!

Fun fall weekend

We had a visit from Farmor and Papa on Saturday morning--how fun! Later we went to Wright Park to get some costume photos and enjoyed the crunchy leaves. Sunday we took advantage of more sunshine and tried to get some nice family photos but B wasn't cooperative. :) Life with a toddler! We get points for trying--and it was fun anyway!

Zoo Boo!

We had a great time at Point Defiance Zoo's annual Zoo Boo today! There were tons of kiddos in costumes, which was really fun to see. For the first time, we got to bring our own penguin to the zoo, and of course, she wanted to go and visit the real ones. I think the other kids were somewhat confused to see a "real" penguin (or something close to it!) at the penguin exhibit. B's accepted that the penguins at the zoo don't dance like the ones in Happy Feet (her favorite movie) but that didn't stop her from doing a few dance moves herself. :) She was a trooper and the weather was perfect for her fuzzy warm outfit.

It's definitely fall here with a chill in the air--perfect weather for football and snuggling under the covers with Daddy!

The terrible almost-twos

After a somewhat embarrassing storytime on Thursday (B wouldn't stay in the room, wanted to color all of the nametags, and eventually had a meltdown) we made it through a 45 minute coffee mom's group meetup yesterday. And...she actually PLAYED with TOYS at the coffeehouse. Whoo hoo! Today we're trying an early reading class with some apprehension. We'll see how it goes. Might be a glutton for punishment.

Penguins, pumpkins, and mom hair

We had an awesome fall weekend: pumpkin patch, zoo, and we got a free child ID kit through http://www.wachip.org/.

B was enraptured with the "pengins". "Happy Feet" is her favorite movie--she only watches the dancing scenes--and I think she couldn't believe she was seeing them in the flesh!

True to her little overachiever personality, B was determined to carry the pumpkin herself.

She's going through a lovely "don't look at the camera" phase, but we did manage to get one shot.

My new "mom hair!" Since I have about zero minutes to get ready each morning, I needed something low-maintenance. I got it cut Saturday by Douglas at Au Courrant. This means more frequent trims and more trips up to Mercer Island...poor, poor me.

I've been having trouble sleeping lately--I think I'm back in the overtired cycle that creeps up on me now and then (too tired to sleep). I don't want to go down the road of "real" sleeping pills--yet, anyway--so I'm trying 1.5 mg of melatonin in the evenings. We'll see how it goes!
